This week, Knox Housing Partnership (KHP) has proudly unveiled its new identity and name, HomeSource east tennessee. The change comes as a result of a concerted effort to better express the nonprofit’s role and mission as an organization that provides sustainable housing opportunities to strengthen communities.
“For the past 25 years, we have been a true ‘home source,’ working diligently to provide sustainable housing opportunities and build a stronger community in East Tennessee,” said executive director Jackie Mayo. “We wanted a brand and name that would better express who we are and what we do and we feel like HomeSource east tennessee is just that.”
HomeSource is one of just 247 NeighborWorks® America organizations in the U.S. and one of only 92 nationally recognized HomeOwnerships Centers across the country.
One important way that HomeSource accomplishes its mission is by providing potential homeowners and tenants education about managing finances, credit & debt, as well as personal responsibility when renting and owning a home. HomeSource east tennessee also provides foreclosure prevention counseling to community members who might be struggling with their mortgages and have otherwise given up hope.
Part of the HomeSource mission is developing new apartments and single-family homes for individuals, families, and seniors that might not otherwise qualify and revitalizing neighborhoods by improving existing housing or building new affordable housing.
“With the continued support of HomeSource’s local and national partners, combined with the assistance of caring donors and volunteers, we can continue serving the affordable housing needs of individuals and families for many years to come,” said Mayo.
HomeSource East Tennessee invites the public to attend a picnic to celebrate its new name and identity. The picnic will take place May 21st at the HomeSource east tennessee offices located at 109 N. Winona St. beginning at 11:30 am.

About HomeSource east tennessee
Born out of a community redlining protest, HomeSource east tennessee was created by an organization made up of bank leaders and residents who sought to address the problems of substandard housing and the lack of affordable housing in the Knoxville area in the late 1980s. Through a partnership with local governments, businesses, and private citizens, HomeSource is able to provide affordable housing options to residents of Knox County and the East Tennessee region. Since joining NeighborWorks® America in December 1998, HomeSource east tennessee has graduated more than 2,000 customers from the Homebuyer Education program, and more than 1,000 have graduated into homeownership.
